Advanced MP3 Run Training

Up until this point, you’ve done it all. You’ve hit the long runs of six, seven brutal miles. You’ve climbed hill after hill in the pouring rain. You’ve run a 5K, a 10K, and Ks that start running into the triple digits. You have pushed yourself through as many drills as you can, and you’re looking for something a bit more.
Enter the MP3.
Okay, so MP3 run training isn’t nearly as strenuous as some of the activities above. In fact, it’s supposed to be the opposite – something that complements your advanced training in a way that still takes it to the next level, but in a different way.
Believe it or not, even for advanced runners, MP3 training can be a great tool. Below are a few ways that advanced MP3 run training can really assist with your running program.
(It doesn’t require you to run hills in the rain, either.)
Using MP3s To Set Your Pace
A song has a lot of purposes, and as many people know, helping make exercising a bit more entertaining is one of them. It goes far beyond just giving you something to sing to when you feel like passing out. It can actually help you with your pacing.
A big part of advanced running is correct pacing. If you are going too fast, or going too slow, you will mess up your time – and have a poor race as a result. The trick is to find the optimal balance between speed and endurance for any race over 400-800 meters, and that involves pacing.
Pick a time that sounds like a good, fast race pace for you. Then, try to find music that has a tempo to match the pace. You will not believe how effective this can be in helping you commit your pace to your muscle memory. You will hear the song while running, and the beat and rhythm will literally help you keep in step with your correct speed.
A Coach Right In Your Ear
Most people run better when they have a coach spurring them on (usually out of fear). With the right MP3 running workout, you can actually have a coach in your ear while running alone. There are tracks out there that feature complete workouts. Just follow the verbal instructions and do what the ‘coach’ tells you.
I highly recommend using audio training tools to help you in your running. They’re great for beginners too, but advanced runners can take their running to the next level with the right technological support. That’s why I created the Treadmill Trainer!
