Fun Fitness
Just about every day, I have a set plan for my workout: A 3-mile tempo run, an 11-mile long run, a day of cardio combined with Insanity or P90X or Fitter U Fitness. Today, however, I scrapped the plan and declared it a “fun fitness” day.
I enjoyed fitness games on the Wii for about 30 minutes, had a 30-minute session of martial arts, spent about 40 minutes doing Fat Blaster 1 from Month 2 of Fitter U Fitness (my first time with that one – love it!), and the day’s still young. Hopefully, I’ll get in an easy run just for the head-clearing benefits (without having any time or distance goals), and perhaps a bit more fun with the Wii later this afternoon.
I love having a plan and am a very structured person; but sometimes, it feels easy to burn out or to become a slave to the plan. Naturally, it even becomes impossible to follow any plan from time to time. There are hundreds of obstacles and distractions; and though it’s fulfilling to follow-through with the plan despite those obstacles, sometimes it’s nice to take a step back and be active “just for fun” – forgetting about calories burned, miles covered, reps completed, etc. Those numbers can become all-consuming.
Today, anything goes. It’s a freeing feeling. Tomorrow, I’ll probably have a plan in place for myself; and I will be very content with that plan. Today, however, it’s nice to relax and just enjoy whatever fitness opportunity comes my way.

Shannon, you’re an exercise machine! You probably get more activity in one day than most people do in a week!
