Running Workouts For Outdoors

For many people, running is a chance not only to get some exercise, but an opportunity to get away from the stresses of your usual life. If you really want to get out and experience the freeness of running, your best bet is to get outside. Of course, how and where you run will depend on a few things, but here are three simple running workouts for every possible situation and need.

Sprints. If you want to get outdoors and get the maximum workout in the shortest time, there are lots of options for sprinting. One of the best is to find a local football field or baseball diamond. These fields are great because they are meant for running, and they have pre-measured distances. For beginners, a baseball diamond is a better choice. The distances are shorter, and you can choose between running a single baseline, say from home plate to first or third base; or you can run the base line all the way out to the outfield; or you can do laps of all the bases. Either way, the distance is perfect for a short sprint. For longer distances, a local football field can give you a good variety of distances, with a solid footing for a good hard sprint. In either case, you can live out your sporting dreams (He’s at the 20... the 10... he could go all the way...) while enjoying some fresh air.

Long Run. It doesn’t matter if you are in a rural or urban environment ñ there are plenty of options available for a good, long run. If you have access to some local back country roads, you can easily plot out a distance online using a mapping tool, and create a circuit that will take you through the local scenery. If you live in the city, you can still use an online map to create a route, but you can customize it to a number of purposes. Want to see the sights of your community? Or maybe you need to stop off at a local bakery for a loaf of fresh bread. Create a few different options for yourself, and you will be able to go for a run for any number of reasons.

Trek run. For some people, the idea of getting out and getting away from it all is the best part of running. That doesn’t mean a short run at the park, or a jaunt to the corner store. No, that means getting out of town - way out. Depending on where you live, there are any number of great running adventures that await you. From challenging mountainous and foothills runs, to scenic river valley journeys. A quick search on the web will show you the dozens of options in your local area. No matter the terrain, the seclusion, distance and challenge will be a wonder, and the great natural surroundings are a great added bonus. And if you find yourself traveling for work or pleasure, you can check the area for exhilarating running options far from home that will be an excellent addition to your trip.
