Where To Find A Treadmill Workout For The iPod

Here is a story about running on a treadmill.  One day I was on the treadmill (it was raining outside, and a treadmill is better for your knees anyway) and was doing my workout, trying to watch TV.  But, it was getting me off of my stride, and I was trying to stick to a running routine. I thought it would’ve helped to have something to keep me on pace, and to also give me guidance on when to switch speeds, so I decided to try something.

I grabbed my iPod and started playing music while running.

I know this isn’t exactly a revolutionary concept. People do this all the time.  But, that was when I first recognized how awesome the iPod can be when it comes to helping someone with a running program. Now, I pass this revelation (of sorts) on to you.

Where To Find A Treadmill Workout

The internet is rife with suggestions for a treadmill workout for the iPod. There is actually a program specifically designed to work with the iPod or other MP3 players to help you regulate your fitness regime on the treadmill.  This program is called Treadmill Trainer.

You can download files for walking, jogging, or running that essentially audio guides for your regimen.  For example, they tell you which speed you should use, what angle of elevation (if any) you should use, and what common pre-programmed routine would be helpful for you.

Of course, Treadmill Trainer is not the only way to do this. You can actually create your own.  All you need is a microphone and a program that can record MP3s. But why waste your time when these great mp3 running programs have already been created for you?

Making Your Own iPod Workout

Here is how you can create your own work of art (or something like that) to assist you during a workout.  This is a good idea because you can also add anything you want – motivational quotes, encouragement from you or other people, snippets of music, etc.  If you are running intervals, follow an interval pattern (like the ones I have written about previously) and record the speed increases on the audio track.

For example, if you are running intervals based on a 2:1 ratio over 30 minutes (where you run normally for two minutes, then speed up for one minute, etc.), and you know the speeds you will use, then start off by saying instructions for how to begin – such as, “For two minutes, I will run at a 4.0 speed.” Then, at the 1:50 mark, say something like “Begin to turn up speed to 4.5”.  Use these reminders to direct you during your run.

However, creating these kinds of workouts can be tedious and time consuming if you are not familiar with the technology of proper sound recording.

And that’s why I created the Treadmill Trainer running workouts. To give you the final “done-for-you” mp3 running workouts that combine motivating running music along with my coaching to push and guide you through your runs. Give them a try today and I guarantee you’ll never look back!
